Select Profitable Keywords
Did you notice the distinction in the title of this page? I said select PROFITABLE keywords... not select POPULAR keywords or even HIGH TRAFFIC keywords.
Selecting profitable keywords for your website promotion will save you time, effort and money.
What is a Profitable Keyword?
A keyword is profitable when it attracts a visitor to your website and that visitor carries out some desired action when they get there. It might go like this:
"buy a beginners body board"
into their search engine
|
Your web page about beginners bodyboards is listed in the search results
|
The visitor clicks on the link to your web page
|
The visitor buys a bodyboard from your website
|
RESULT!!
Can Keywords be Un-Profitable?
Well yes... keywords can definitely be ambiguous and misleading! You can never be quite sure what a visitor MEANS when they search on a particular phrase, and if you make ASSUMPTIONS about their meaning it can take you up a blind alley.
The most obvious example of this situation goes like this:
"leather briefcase"
into their search engine
|
Your web page about leather briefcases is listed in the search results
|
The visitor clicks on the link to your web page
|
The visitor discovers that you SELL leather briefcases but they were only looking for INFORMATION about leather briefcases.
|
The visitor leaves dissatisfied...
What Does This Tell Us About Keyword Research?
This tells you that you're holy grail is to find keywords where you KNOW exactly what the visitor means by their search term and deliver that content to them.
Sometimes it's obvious, the visitor TELLS you what they want... for instance "buy a lawnmower" is fairly clear in it's intention.
Sometimes the visitor might imply something in their search query, it might be more like a question to which YOU can provide the answer. For instance "gifts for a gardener" would be a typical search where you can provide inspiration (and sell a product) to the visitor looking for gifts for a gardener!
What Tools Can You Use for Keyword Research?
My favourite by far is the Google Keyword Tool. To start with it's completely free, AND its database comes directly from searches made on Google (the largest search engine on the planet!). Have a go with it, it's easy to use too.
I also like to use Wordtracker for researching longer keyword terms and using the statistical data to tell me how easy or hard a keyword will be to target for a promotional campaign.
Is There an Easier Way?
Keyword research is time consuming and requires more skill than is first apparent. Finding really interesting and different keywords requires experience too!
We'll research 30 keywords for you for free the first time and then it's just £99 per 100 thereafter. You need keywords to get started. Get started NOW!
